Ebay Jays Away, Hooray!

I have been hearing ads by work-at- home cons pushing ebay sales kits on my local Air America affiliate, KTNF in Eden Prairie MN. So I recently wrote a letter of complaint to the general manger. I am pleased with her response.

Ms Robert,

I am a regular listener to AM950. I feel that your broadcasts play an important role in the reshaping of this country and help in staving off a potential slide into Fascism and Oligarchy. However, I fully realize that you are a business and that your purpose is to make money by
delivering entertainment to a growing audience that is increasingly estranged to the corrupt so-called conservative agenda that has been
pervasive in our politics.

I also realize that keeping the station alive is a challenge. I am somewhat disenchanted with the quality of ethical advertising in the marketplace today. Cable TV and Radio has presented our society with a river of questionable product offerings and unscrupulous business practices. The definitions of fraud and ethics are being severely challenged and it is my hope that you exercise caution with respect to your image by maintaining sponsors with an acceptable level of integrity. To be honest, I am saddened by the nature of much of the advertising presented on AM950 and if you could garner better clients at this time I am sure you would.

However, one of your advertisers strikes me as being especially distasteful and somewhat unethical. This would be the people that push Ebay sales kits. I have a lot of experience selling on Ebay and I can say with absolute certainty that trying to sell and drop-ship items on Ebay is an extremely poor use of anyone's time. Your client knows this and is deliberately trying to cheat people by offering your listeners disinformation and lies. Most people who buy their product will not only
waste their money on the materials, but may also be persuaded into taking a serious financial risk by entering into a badly flawed business venture. How is it that you can willingly do business with those who choose to make their living by suckering as many of your valued listeners as possible? What are the chances of them actually paying you for air time?

I urge you to please reconsider your business relationship with this client. I truly feel that it does your listeners and your reputation a disservice as well as to those of the fine and talented people who provide content to you.

Sincerely,

{XXXX}

The Response:
Dear {XXXX},

Thank you for your thoughtful comments. Those advertisements should be ending this week. That was an experiment with a national sales group that we are not going to continue.

I agree with you. We would like to proudly stand behind all of our advertisers. Some advertising is out of our control because it is sold by the national programs we carry.

Our sales for the most part our the ones to local small businesses, such as Bellaluna, Barbette's restaurant, Signature Café, Clint Faust financial planner, all of which I personally am very proud. I hope you will support them, also.

Thanks for listening and your support.

It is nice to know that they listen. I may try a letter to my affiliate here in Atlanta.

Sincere congratulations on your snuffing of one of the heads of the Huckstering Hydra. I'm betting that you just saved at least one of your neighbors a good chunk of time and money. Too bad they don't know who to thank.

Better New Year. "Happy" hasn't gotten us very far!

Maybe I drove a nail into this coffin, but they still have the "mystery shopper" ad still running.
